ORD day has arrived. i felt a sense of fulfillment upon receiving that IC, not so much at the elation of not having to serve anymore (past that landmark since clearing leave heh), but rather it was an overwhelming sense of achievement at having successfully completed 22 months of national service. it has been a crazy ride, learning many things along the way, forging many friendships. and it is the friendships that shall be the subject matter of this post.

jon and i successfully organised a dinner for the "old guards", of which from today i am officially a member of :D i'd originally intended to ask zk alvin jon edward daniel and joel. in the end though, through word of mouth, got other joel, paul and kelvin too. and i must say it turned out for the best, well since we all know each other anyway heh.

as i was on my bus ride home, i thought to myself "what would you regret not saying if you never saw these people again". and suddenly i felt frightened, i was worried that i never told these people how much i appreciated their playing a part in my life. ok so now a shoutout to all the great people i've met up with tonight whom i've gotten to know in the time i served NS: (in alphabetical order)

Alvin - one person with whom i can talk to anything about, was really great knowing you man, similar background from sispec and what not. really hope we can continue to meetup in future cause it's not easy finding someone you're totally at ease with.

Daniel - daniel daniel daniel, after what 1 year and 2 months since you posted in, i wont be around to rib you anymore. but something i really want to tell you is that despite all those cracks, i really regard you as a friend, which is why i bother to disturb you in the first place. hang on there bro.

Edward - you, me and zk, the 3 pros in the branch haha. can handle anything no prob man. i really appreciate how we always had each other's backs, never saboing each other. a real friend, and you always try your best to help when asked, thank you. also learnt many things from you :D

Joel Chua - hey man, knew you for a shorter time than the rest and despite your easygoing, happy-go-lucky exterior, i think you value your friendships as well, judging by the fact that well you showed up just now :)

Joel Keh - Mr K! man wished you couldve turned up, but take care. another buddy with whom i can click really well with. you can seem stand-offish at times but hey, with the right people (like jon zk and myself) you can become quite the joker :) miss you correcting my english bro and i do lament that i didnt manage to catch ya for the last time in camp today, but hey opportunities abound!

Jon - arguably one of my best friends in camp, grew really close during that time alvin went on course (altho now for the life of me i cant remb why i didnt hang out with edward and zk) now is one person with whom i can literally talk about anything under the sun with. and for hours on end i might add. gonna miss horsing around with all those accents innit? perhaps we can catch up in a little willage in aussie :)

Kelvin - grew to know you better after tt time you came to zouk with us heh. realise you're also a very sincere person towards your friends and hopefully will see you around as well.

Paul - always ready with a funny anecdote, but more importantly your warmth and sincerity towards your friends doesnt go unnoticed. can literally feel that you accord all your friends with utmost respect, always interested in what they have to say. well i'll see you and joel in SMU when i enrol this year!

ZK - another talkcock buddy! man utd fan too! and not to forget, other half of the "invincible" tablesoccer team haha. man being in the same branch with you and edwawrd brought about many memorable experiences for me. dont even know when to begin. when we slogged together for exercise? when we helped out at changi for the dinner until like what 9+ or 10+? or when we went to SAFRA yishun together? see it's endless. suffice to say you were one of my best companions throughout the tough working days, the lunch times, the break times, everything. and for this i cannot thank you enough.

i really do feel that the 5 of us: alvin jon zk edward and myself, heralded a sort of golden era for our 3 branches. i doubt if they were any closer (nor will they be any closer) than during our time there. dont know how you all felt, but for me, this group of 5 was tight was can be. i would have trusted you all to have my back anytime. i believe there's a chinese saying that if you can find a really good friend in this lifetime, then your life has been worth living. well pretty much all i can say is within the 1 year plus in this camp with you all, i've found 4. we all clicked really well and basically i think it was there for all to see.

so thank you alvin jon edward zk. i could not have asked for more, and may our paths cross again and again and again.

am now 3SG(NS) :D

ORD OH!
